The City of London Academy Southwark's (CoLAS) Library is located at the heart of the school, in ‘The Atrium’. All of our students are encouraged to read for pleasure, and for academic progress. The opening hours are 8am-5pm, Monday to Thursday and 8am-4pm on Fridays.

We have a developing and engaging reading culture at CoLAS. The imaginative worlds of fiction and the information within non-fiction develop information literacy; they build a range of vocabulary through exposure to language, supporting all class and homework.

The learning resources of CoLAS Library are a mixture of fiction, non-fiction, graphic novels, newspapers and periodicals, alongside a new development of electronic resources for all year groups and subject areas.

All of our students are welcome to visit COLAS Library throughout the school-day to borrow resources, and to read and work quietly. The library provides a supportive and calm learning environment. It is an inclusive space for all students of CoLAS.

From September 2019 there will be a new Homework Club, three times a week after-school. There will also be a new after-school book club called: ‘Books + Culture’, for all year groups where key parts of fiction and non-fiction are read as a group, alongside a student-led discussion to explore the context of the book.

Our team of professional Librarians deliver a high-quality experience across the school year, including events based around: World Book Day, Black History Month, International Women’s Day, National Poetry Day, and many more.

Authors and other literary professionals will continue to be invited and welcomed to CoLAS Library, to enrich our students and their engagement with reading.
